Cyprus
is a historical island embodying the ruins of the Great Meditteranean
Culture and Civilization. The island among three continents , in the
cradle of different civilizations led to agitational developments
because of its strategic location. Its history provided the island to
have a wealthy and peculiar inheritance.
The
migrations, cultural interactions, art styles, various religions, and
politic movements caused the identity and character of the island to
settle. The changes occuring through years, the present archeological
works and historical buildings, ruins of Neolitic and Bronze Ages,
Greek and Rman theaters and temples, Gothic style churches and castles
remaining from the British Colonial Era. The T.R.N.C. is entering the
2000’s with new attempts in the tourism sector. For the development
of the tourism sector in the country, there are short-term and
medium-term
projects within the limits of a Tourism Master Plan. The
Ministry of Tourism, together with 5 universities and a research
company, is collecting data and searching for investment
possibilities. The tourism income of the T.R.N.C. was 30 million US
Dollars in 1977, but it reached to 193 million US Dollars in 2000.
Another important point in statistics is that the number of tourists
except the ones coming from Turkey has increased 16 times within this
period. |
