It is the strongest of the three castles built on the peaks of Besparmak
Mountains. It was used as a watch point for both the land and the sea. The
castle takes its name from a saint who ran away after Jerusalem was
invaded by Arabs, then lived and died in a cave on top of the mountain.
The place was enlargened by the addition of a church and an abbey. It was
turned into a castle when Louisians added 9 towers in 1228. There is a
palace building in the castle and it is told that the queen watched the
island from the place known as “The
Queen’s Window”.
