| The corpses of Prophet Omar and his six friends who died in a battle
against Byzantine Soldiers were buried in a cave in this place. After the
conquer of the island by the Turks in 1571, the remainders of the dead
were taken out of the cave and buried in their present place. According to
the beliefs of Islam, the place where the martyrs lie is holy. The
building, which has a crooked architecture, was damaged because of a
thunderbolt and after a restoration which was done ignorantly, it became a
building without any architectüral value.
